This year (2011) the richest people in the word list is composed of $1,210 billionaires considered to be the wealthiest people on planet Earth. You may or may envy these people, or maybe not. However you may feel about the wealth, these are people whose net worth is in the billions and therefore have some international clout. Whether they’ve earned the money on their own or have inherited it, all of them have a net worth over $25 billion! I can’t even imagine what it must be like to have that kind of money. Luckily, some of the world’s billionaires want to make a difference in the world. Bill Gates and his wife Melinda declared in 2008 that their $58 billion fortune is going to their charity after they die and not their children. The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation funds health and education projects all over the world. He revealed this decision right before stepping down as chairman of Microsoft. Carlos Slim, the wealthiest person in the world, long doubted the effectiveness of charity. Then he decided to donate $512 million to improve health and education around Mexico. This was in 2009 through the Carlos Slim Foundation. Did the Mexican billionaire not want the second richest man to outshine him? Maybe. Philanthropic efforts are contagious I suppose.
