Oldest People in History I think everyone in the world would like to live to be one of the oldest people in human history. As we grow older the idea of dying before 80 seems to be almost too young. I suppose if you live your life in the most fruitful way possible, age won’t matter as much. Still, as I discussed in the previous article about secrets of longevity , there are groups of people out there who live to be centenarians. And their lifestyles and cultures seem to contribute to their old age. While these Blue Zones, or communities with centenarians, are few and far between, it is more common for the location of people living beyond 100 to be peppered around the world . These centenarians and supercentenarians (beyond 110) vary in background, although the majority are them are women. Let’s take a long at some of the oldest people in world. Oldest People in History The longest confirmed human lifespan was that of Jeanne Calment, a French woman who lived for an amazing 122 years and 164 days. She was born in 1875 and died in 1997, the last person alive to have met Vincent Van Gogh in their lifetime. Sarah Knauss was 119 when she died. Lucy Hannah was 117 when she died. Marie-Louise Meilleur was 117 when she died. Maria Capovilla was 116 when she died. Today the oldest person on Earth is Besse Cooper at the age of 114. Behind her are Chiyono Hasegawa, also at 114, and Venere Pizzinato at 114. Oldest People in the World It’s incredible that these people live as long as they do. I’m sure that at a certain point it must be difficult to be so old, but until then they are the specimens of perfect human health. They literally die of old age, or something that their age cannot stand up against any more. I wonder, however, if most of these people are happy with the lives they’ve lived. I’m sure that most of them have lived full, rich lives but at a certain point I think I wouldn’t want to be around anymore. Probably after 90 or so, but only if it became difficult to walk and take care of myself. I think the question that should be posed is whether or not you want a long life or a full life. Is it possible to have both I wonder? And how much of it is subjective? For everyone stand by the live long and prosper motto. As technology and medicine continues to advance I’m sure there will be more and more people who live longer– let’s just hope their lives are filled with love and happiness as well.
