Canada’s Favourite Restaurants

Canada’s Favourite Restaurants While some of Canada’s most famous restaurants are chains like Tim Horton’s and Swiss Chalet, there are plenty of national favourites that don’t get the kind of international acclaim they deserve. With a diverse body of cultures and ingredients, some of the best restaurants of the country are known mostly by their respective cities’ citizens. If you’re a foodie who is looking for some great Canadian culinary recommendations, consider some of the restaurants listed below. Canada’s Favourite Restaurants My roommate went to school in Canada and has many friends who are Canadian and so I turned to her for advice on making this list. Canoe  Sitting on top of the TD Bank Tower with a gorgeous view of Toronto, Canoe was ranked as the number one culinary hot-spot by Toronto Life. It’s not necessarily cheap, however it has received endless acclaim for being one of the country’s favorites restaurants. The New York Times said, “All that is Canadian defines Canoe.” With everything from frog legs to duck to sturgeon, Canoe definitely has a diverse, upscale menu. La Queue de Cheval This Montreal steakhouse is known for its delicious surf and turf menu contents along with its excellent wine selection. A nice upscale ambiance that warms patrons up from their cold winter nights. Creperie Catherine Another recommendation from my roommate, this Mont Tremblant joint offers diners sweet and savory crepes. It is a family run restaurant started in 1981 by Chef Catherine herself and has a cozy feel that welcomes people from all backgrounds. Canada's Favourite Restaurants Vij’s Vancouver’s Vij’s has been described as “Fusion Indian” and has a reputation for not only having excellent food but also incredible service. The owner Vikram, who was born and raised in India, often takes time to talk to diners, giving the restaurant a friendly, family like atmosphere. This restaurant is often so popular that there is almost always a wait, so plan ahead if you’re going to visit. These are just a handful of Canadian restaurants friends have told me are their favourites. Of course this is the opinion of just a few people and I’d love to hear more! If you’d like to share your favourite restaurant in Canada, even if its just a local cafe in your neighborhood, please feel free to leave a comment so that we can add to this list. I know many of these aren’t the cheapest of places to eat, but they do have a reputations of being some of the best. I will work on a list of more inexpensive, fantastic restaurants in Canada soon.
